Ontario Health Teams are a Ministry-approved collaborative health service made up of provider organizations including primary care, hospice/palliative care, long term care, home and community care, mental health and addiction services, acute care, and other community-based services that are collectively dedicated to equitable improvement of population health and seeking better and more efficient ways to receive and deliver care and services.

The WPS OHT is seeking a Digital, Data, and Quality Lead to manage and support the integration of digital health initiatives, data-driven decision-making, and quality improvement efforts across the region. This role will support the development and implementation of strategies to enhance patient care, optimize system performance, and ensure continuous quality improvement through the effective use of digital tools, data analysis, and evidence-based practices.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Digital Health Leadership and Support

  • Lead digital health initiatives within WPS OHT, using the Provincial Digital Health Playbook for guidance. 
  • Implement and evaluate digital solutions aligned with provincial standards and enhance

2. Data Governance and Compliance

  •    Ensure compliance with data privacy standards (PHIPA, FIPPA). 
  •    Integrate local data with provincial systems, respecting Indigenous data governance and community control.

3. Quality Improvement and Digital Enablement

  •    Drive quality improvements through data-driven decisions and digital tools. 
  •    Oversee cQIP and ensure consistent data use across partners to improve population health.

4. Technical and Operational Support

  •    Provide technical support and collaborate on system maintenance. 
  •    Establish secure data-sharing protocols, ensuring compliance with Indigenous data sovereignty.

5. Project Coordination and Funding Review

  •    Coordinate projects and provide input on funding proposals. 
  •    Ensure alignment with OHT priorities and data governance principles.

 

Skills/Knowledge Requirements

  • Technical Expertise: Knowledge of information management systems and EMRs (e.g., CHRIS, PS Suites, Meditech, Health Partner Gateway), secure online portals, e-referrals, e-notifications, and Connecting Ontario provincial record. Knowledge of the Ontario healthcare system, health data, and experience with health administrative and clinical data (e.g., CIHI DAD, NACRS, OHIP billing) is an asset.
  • Digital Health Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the digital health ecosystem, including relevant tools, maturity targets, and systems in Ontario.
  • Data Privacy & Security: Expertise in data privacy standards, internet security principles, and Indigenous data sovereignty protocols.
  • Indigenous Data Sovereignty: Knowledge of Indigenous data ownership principles and experience working with Indigenous communities to uphold these principles.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and foster collaborative relationships.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent time management, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.

 

Education & Job Requirements

  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, health services research, epidemiology/public health/population health, biostatistics, or a related discipline.
  • 1-3 years of project management experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with large data sets and data quality methodologies is an asset.
  • Clear criminal/vulnerable sector check and immunization and vaccination record to meet policy requirements.
  • Must have a valid Ontario driver's license, clean driver’s abstract, and access to a vehicle, as travel is required.
  • Demonstrated satisfactory attendance levels, work performance, disciplinary history, and positive work references.

 

Working Conditions

The role is primarily office-based with potential for occasional remote work upon approval. The position may require occasional travel within the West Parry Sound region. The role involves mental focus and attention to detail while managing complex data and digital health initiatives.

About Parry Sound

Parry Sound is a beautiful town, located on the shores of an inland “ocean”, Georgian Bay. The area boasts many beautiful beaches, parks and trails. It is ideally situated just off highway 400, in the Southermost part of Northern Ontario. This charming waterfront town is within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and home to 6,500 residents in the town itself, and over 14,000 in the immediate area. In summer, the population grows to nearly 100,000 people with seasonal residents, making for a very interesting dynamic! The area boasts several Provincial Parks and unlimited water for boating, canoeing/kayaking, fishing and things to do. In the winter, Parry Sound has a thriving snowmobiling, ice fishing, skiing and snowshoeing industry. The lakes generally freeze by January, and snow abounds in the area! In the summer the area swells with cottagers and visitors, who have discovered the beauty and hospitality of the region.
